In the early years of the Sun Court, about 30 young women were part of the formal court, and each participant represented an organization. Today, the Sun Court includes one queen and 10 to 14 young women. The Sun Court serves as ambassadors for the city of El Paso and the Sun Bowl Association. They volunteer at various community events and make appearances at the Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers Sun Bowl Parade, WestStar Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational, Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl Game, Sun Bowl Flag Football Tournament and other events throughout the year.
The Sun Queen, Lady-in-Waiting, and a Sun Court of numerous princesses serve as El Paso’s ambassadors at various events throughout the year. The selection of the Sun Court members is based on their poise, personality, communication, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of El Paso. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students.

The Sun Court Legacy honors the past 90 years of the Sun Queen and her court. By bringing together former Sun Court members, the Sun Court Legacy is a space to celebrate our history and support the young women who follow in our footsteps. This network will provide mentorship and allow past Sun Court members to connect with the next generation. The Sun Court Legacy will ensure that the spirit of the Sun Queen and her court lives and grows stronger with every passing year.
We are proud to announce the Sun Court Legacy Award, designed to support future Sun Queens, Ladies in Waiting, and Sun Princesses who exhibit outstanding character and love for our El Paso community. Your contribution, no matter the size, can help support these distinguished young women in their scholarly and professional endeavors.
