The Sun Bowl Association holds multiple community events throughout the calendar year. These events including El Paso’s largest single day attended event in the GLasheen, Valles and Inderman Injury Lawyers Sun Bowl Parade held on Thanksgiving Day, as well as the city’s largest economically impacted annual event in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game held at the end of the year. These community events help promote El Paso not only in the southwest region, but nationally.
Coronation has been part of the Sun Bowl since the first-ever college Sun Bowl game was played in 1936. Coronation played a huge social role in the “Sun Carnival”, the week-long pageantry associated with the Sun Bowl.
According to the 1938 Sun Bowl game program, “The social side of the Sun Carnival centers around the Coronation of the Sun Queen with Ladies-In-Waiting and her Royal Court of Princesses from all the cities of the Sun Empire and the Grand Ball tendered by the Association in honor of Her Majesty and Court.”

Learn MoreEl Paso youth ages 6 - 15 are invited to show off their football skills and compete in Punt, Pass & Kick, sponsored by Peter Piper Pizza. The first 150 kids to check into the free event will receive a t-shirt and water bottle. The winner from each age group will receive a ticket to the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.

Learn MoreThe Sun Bowl Marathon All-America Golf Classic has been one of the premier college golf tournaments in the country. Some of golf’s brightest stars have traveled to El Paso to compete in the tournament since its inaugural year in 1974. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler are just a handful of past participants who went on to have successful PGA careers. The Nusenda Credit Union Sun Bowl Pickleball Tournament will be an unsanctioned Round Robin Play tournament featuring Men’s and Women’s doubles, Mixed doubles, and a Hybrid Wheelchair Division (any combination).
