Karen Carrillo, daughter of Gustavo and Elena Carrillo, is a Senior at The University of Texas at El Paso, majoring in Music with a minor in All-Levels Education.

Karen graduated from Coronado High School, where she served as president and drum major of the marching band, played on the soccer team, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She earned UIL All-Region and All-Area Musician honors, and Division I Solo & Ensemble ratings for all four years. She was also a member of the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra.

At UTEP, Karen is the drum major of the Marching Miners and a member of the Wind Symphony and UTEP Flautistas flute choir, where she also served as student conductor for the 2025 Mother’s Day concert. She previously performed with the UTEP Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic and Concert Bands. She has consistently earned a place on the Dean’s List and, in 2024, was featured at the UTEP Honors Recital and received the Dr. Donald G. Wilkinson Music Education Scholarship.

She is a proud member of Kappa Kappa Psi, serving as President of the Iota Class and Vice President of Service, earning the Outstanding Member Award. Karen also works as a freelance flute technician and music clinician, and served as a High Impact Music Tutor for EPISD.

Karen aspires to represent UTEP and the El Paso community with pride by serving on the Sun Court this year.
