Laynee Stokes, daughter of William and Sarah Stokes, is a Sophomore at New Mexico State University, majoring in Viola Performance. She graduated from Franklin High School and earned several scholarships, including the El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association Ben Ayala Scholarship, the EPISD Education Foundation Scholarship, and the Rotary Club of El Paso Quinn Scholarship.
Laynee has performed with several orchestras, including the University of Texas at El Paso Symphony Orchestra, the Binational Orchestra, and the Feynman String Quartet. Currently, she is a viola substitute with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra. This past February, she was the NSMU Philharmonic’s Principal Violist.
Outside of the concert halls, Laynee has volunteered with several organizations, including Andrew’s Toy Box, the Junior League of El Paso, El Paso Animal Services, the Ronald McDonald House, the Kelly Hugner Relief Center, and many more.
Laynee spent her childhood attending Sun Bowl games with her grandfather, and now, with her sister and cousin, it has become a tradition she values deeply. She wishes to carry on the legacy of the Sun Bowl and Sun Court, with a desire to be an ambassador for the community.
