SUN BOWL ADULT FLAG FOOTBALL AWARDS CASH PRIZES OVER THE WEEKEND August 21, 2023

EL PASO, Texas – The Sun Bowl Association and the Southwest Flag Football League awarded $8,000 in prize money to winners of the Third Annual Sun Bowl Adult Flag Football Tournament over the weekend of August 18-20 at the Westside Sports Complex in El Paso, Texas.

The tournament, which started with approximately 35 teams in its first year, has grown to 60-plus teams this year, competing in various divisions of play including a coed division, women’s division and three different men’s divisions. Teams and players from as far Florida and Arizona made the trek to El Paso to participate in this fun community event.

“It’s great this event continues to grow year-after-year and we really believe that it will continue to grow from here,” said Sun Bowl Association Executive Director Bernie Olivas. “We continue to work hard to reach our next goal of bringing in more teams from out of town which will have a positive impact on our city and economy.”

Audience of One won the Coed Division and took home $1,000 along with the Championship Belt and Championship mugs. The Vipers from El Paso, Texas became back-to-back-to-back champions in the Women’s (Competitive) Division taking home $2,500 in cash along with the belt and mugs. Bomb Kings won the Recreational Men’s Division ($1,000), TMT won the Intermediate Men’s Division ($1,000) and HTK won the Competitive Men’s Division ($2,500).

“We keep getting a ton of compliments on the organization of the tournament,” Special Events Director Joe Daubach said. “We believe others are starting to take notice as the tournament continues to grow. We’d love to see this event grow to 100 teams and beyond,”

Rosters consisted of 15 members, competed in this 8-on-8 flag football tournament. All participants received a tournament gift bag with various commemorative items.
