PETER PIPER PIZZA SUN BOWL PUNT PASS & KICK SET FOR OCTOBER 20

EL PASO, Texas – The Peter Piper Pizza Sun Bowl Punt, Pass & Kick is set for, Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. (MT) in Sun Bowl Stadium on the UTEP campus. The free event is open to youth in and around the Borderland and registration is now open.

Girls and boys in five separate age divisions (listed below) compete against each other in punting, passing and place kicking. Those interested in participating for this free event can register at any Peter Piper Pizza location in El Paso from now through the day of the event.

All participants must bring their birth certificate and a signed parental waiver form (see below) to the stadium, and no cleats are allowed during the competition. If there are any questions or concerns about the competition, please call Jay Pritchard of the Sun Bowl Association at 915-533-4416.

“All winners will be honored at the Sun Bowl Parade on Thanksgiving morning and the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl on December 31,” said Bernie Olivas, Executive Director of the Sun Bowl Association. “We know and understand that the people of El Paso love football and this is an exciting opportunity for them to compete against other kids in the city.”

Registration can be found at all Peter Piper Pizza locations in El Paso by scanning QR codes within the restaurant and all participants must submit a signed parental waiver form at check-in on the day of the event as well. Parental waivers can be printed from the Sun Bowl Association website (www.sunbowl.org) or can be filled out on that day before the competition at Sun Bowl Stadium.

“We want to give back to the community, so we are partnering with the Sun Bowl Association for this wonderful event,” said Howard Smith, Vice President of Marketing for Peter Piper Pizza.

The first 200 participants to check-in on the day of the event will receive a free t-shirt (sizes are limited) and a water bottle.

After the competition is completed and the scores are totaled, the Sun Bowl Association will hand out first, second and third place medals to the top three finishers in each of the boys’ and girls’ divisions from the five age brackets. The first-place finisher in each of the boys’ and girls’ division from the five age brackets will be recognized at the Sun Bowl Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 25, 2021. Those first-place finishers will also receive two End Zone section tickets to the 88th Annual Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, which is scheduled for Dec. 31, 2021 at 10 a.m. (MT).

ELIGIBILITY
• The competition is open to all boys and girls ages 6-15. Boys and girls compete separately. The five age classifications are based upon the child’s age as of Dec. 31 of the current year.
• There is no charge to participate in the PETER PIPER PIZZA SUN BOWL PUNT, PASS & KICK.
• All participants must show proof of age at check-in upon arrival. Failure to provide a birth certificate or state or federal issued photo ID will result in that participant being ineligible to compete.
• Participants can register before the competition at any of the Peter Piper Pizza locations in El Paso.
• Start time for the competition is 5 p.m. (MT) and ends at 8 p.m. (MT).
• Event check in on the North End of Sun Bowl Stadium.
• Please be sure to check with your state Athletic Association to ensure that your participation in PPK will not affect your eligibility to take part in any other sports during the school year.
• All participants must submit a signed parental waiver form. Bring the form with you or sign up at the stadium on that day. There will be forms available when you arrive at 5 p.m. (MT) or can be printed off our website at www.sunbowl.org.

REGULATIONS
• No football shoes, turf shoes, cleats or bare feet are allowed. Only soft-sole gym shoes are permitted. Failure to wear gym shoes results in the disqualification of the participant.
• All equipment (other than shoes) needed for the competition will be provided.
• Participants who are 6-7 use a WILSON PEEWEE football. The 8-9 and 10-11 participants use a WILSON JUNIOR football. Participants who are 12-15 use a WILSON INTERMEDIATE football.
