LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Sun Bowl Association was recognized at the Annual Bowl Season meetings on April 15, 2025, at the Conrad Las Vegas at Resorts World during the Bowl Season Awards Ceremony. The Sun Bowl Association received the Bowl Season “Bestie” Award for “Best In Student-Athlete Experience.” The award recognized the Day with the Troops, an annual event the Sun Bowl Association holds for both teams during the week leading up to the big game. “This is a testament to how hard our staff and volunteers work to give the student-athletes the most spectacular experience possible. We also thank the men and women who serve our country to allow these players to do what they do best,” stated Executive Director Bernie Olivas. Members of each team have the opportunity to interact with and operate simulated tanks, Humvees, Blackhawk Helicopters, missile launchers, and other military machinery that the troops use as part of their daily training. The players are also taken to a digital shooting range, where they can fire various military weapons.
