EL PASO, Texas – The Sun Bowl Association and its football selection committee announced on Sunday, Dec. 6 that the Miami Hurricanes will take on the Washington State Cougars in the 82nd Annual Hyundai Sun Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 26 at noon.
Miami finished the season 8-4 overall and 5-3 in ACC play while Washington State ended the regular season with a, 8-4 overall record and a 6-3 record in the Pac-12. The Hurricanes finished the season winning four of their last six games while WSU also finished the second half of the season going 4-2 in the final six games.
The administration, coaches and fans from WSU are very excited to head down to the borderland for the 2015 Hyundai Sun Bowl as the Cougar Director of Athletics Bill Moos mentions.
“Washington State is excited to be participating in the 2015 Sun Bowl,” said Moos. “I can say from experience that both our team and our fans will enjoy the first class hospitality that will be extended by the El Paso community and the bowl itself. This will be a fabulous and deserving reward for our players and a wonderful way to cap off an outstanding season.”
The Miami Director of Athletics also mentioned the excitement of returning to El Paso for the Hyundai Sun Bowl.
“The Sun Bowl is one of college football’s longest standing traditions and I am thrilled that the University of Miami will once again be able to be a part of this wonderful tradition," said UM Athletics Director Blake James. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our student-athletes to face off against a great opponent in Washington State and we look forward to the challenge."
Both teams have been in the Sun Bowl once before. Washington State took on Purdue on Dec. 31, 2001 and defeated the Boilermakers 33-27. Miami played in front of a sell-out crowd on a rare cold and snowy day on Dec. 31, 2010 but lost to Notre Dame 33-17.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
